This rooftop maternity shoot was one to write home about. I'm still thinking about these photos and have been so excited to share them with you!
To be honest, I love a good park session as much as the next Austin family photographer, but lately? I’m all about leaning into more urban vibes.
There’s just something about the city skyline, morning light, and a little concrete under your feet that makes the photos feel so rooted in place.
And for this session, that place was very clearly—Austin. It's one of those cities that is like IYKYK... and this session is just old-school-quintessential Austin vibes.
Lauren and her family are no strangers to my camera either! I’ve had the joy of photographing them a few times now. I love getting to have clients in front of the lens over and over.
It’s been so much fun watching their little girl grow, and now they’re getting ready to welcome another baby!
For this rooftop maternity shoot, we decided to mix it up with two different looks. We wanted variety in their gallery!
We went with a dressier vibe and a more laid-back, casual feel, for some contrast.
First up, the classic white dress moment. Lauren looked absolutely stunning in her flowy midi dress (maternity perfection), and their daughter twirled around in her ruffled striped dress with shiny silver shoes that caught the morning light.
The three of them looked so laid-back against the backdrop of the Austin skyline. It almost felt like we were shooting a magazine cover. The background somehow left all the focus on them as a family, even while being a busy skyline.
Then came outfit change number two, and I honestly loved the switch just as much. Lauren rocked jeans and a cropped tank that showed off her baby bump so beautifully. Their little girl kept her dress on, because: toddlers. We can mitigate outfit changes by picking a neutral piece that works with anything the parents are wearing.
She’s the star of the show anyway, whether she’s running circles around her parents, snuggling into mom’s arms, or giving baby sibling a kiss through the belly.
And here’s the thing about morning sessions: this is why I keep nudging people to try them. The light? Gorgeous. The city? Quiet. The kids? Fresh, fed, and ready to go. It just makes the whole experience easier and more fun for everyone involved... and the photos prove it.
I walked away from this rooftop maternity session feeling so fulfilled as an artist, and with a gallery full of images that really show the sweet chaos and connection of this little family.
I can’t wait to photograph them again when they’re a family of four.
